A Random Enthusiast Great review! I watched the movie of The Help-IT WAS AMAZING- and only afterward realized it was adapted from a book, so...I'm excited!

message 20: by Sakina (new)

Sakina I read this book long back but still remember that it was amazing and unlike anything I ever read considering most of what I read at that time included vampires :p

I am so glad you enjoyed it just as much. Your review is amazing. I agree that the book portrayed equality, racism, freedom and respect in a way that is understandable and impactful rather than boring.

Amazing review Lola! Reading it refreshed my memory of the book :)

Jen ♥Star-Crossed Book Blog♥ Fabulous review, Lola! So happy that you found such fascinating book to get lost in. :)

message 22: by Kris (new)

Kris Such a beautiful book and movie. It's been a while since I read it or saw the movie, but I remember it opening my eyes. And the pie-thing was hilarious.

You should be!!! While the movie was amazing, the book gives you so much more insight on the characters!

Awww, thanks so much Sakina! I don't read many books such as this one either, and maybe that's why I liked this so much...

hey, vampires rock ;)

OH YEAH. I just wish we had the REAL scene and not only snippets of what was being said and done. Like in the movie. But yes, honest and unforgettable scene :D

message 35: by Liz (new)

Liz Lola wrote: "Deutschklasse?? Sehr gut... Ich mag Deutsch sprechen... und mein lehrer ist nett!! Ich "finished" klasse eins!!"

"Ich habe Klasse eins beendet." :) The auxiliary verb always on the second position and the main verb (in German) comes last in such sentences.

message 36: by TJ (new)

TJ So boring worst book evs x

message 37: by Lola (new)

Lola That's right, Liz! I haven't learned that many verbs... but I'm good at the pronounciation part, which I'm really happy about :D!!

message 38: by Sabrina (new)

Sabrina Incredible review Lola. It's one of those books that everyone has to read before they die. P.s you should watch Selma as well, the actors, and the movie itself was fantastic. I highly recommend it , if you liked The Help you'll love it :D

message 39: by Jessica (new)

Jessica Osterhouse I totally agree with your thoughts on this book, many of the other reviews I have read were very different from my take on the book, so it's nice to find someone who agrees. I don't read historical fiction very often because it can be hard to connect with, but “The Help” was written so well, and the characters were so well developed that it was easy to imagine you knew them. Almost anyone could read this book and pick out something that they could relate to on an emotional level. Even something as small or simple as “You is kind. You is smart. You is important.” Everyone has issues, and though some people's lives might be harder than others, our struggles can unite us and we should learn to use that, not make fun of each other for our issues.
